Last week’s Devotion Time passage was on the famous “Love Chapter” of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13. As I had a chance to meditate throughout the week on this beautiful passage of the Bible, one of the things that I was challenged about was the steadfast nature of love. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. This aspect of love was very challenging for me as it’s really easy for me to be concerned about someone or some issue that is very recent or urgent. But it’s much more difficult for me to have a long-term, steadfast love. It’s very hard for me to pray for something or some person for a span of years, months, or even weeks. One application that I made from this point was that I committed to go every Thursday morning to our 7:00 prayer time for our Gracepoint Hsinchu church in Taiwan. As our Gracepoint Hsinchu church will be a long-term presence in Taiwan, I thought having a consistent prayer time for it was a good way for me to apply the message of having a steadfast and persevering love. This will be something that I can pray for every week throughout this year and beyond.
In addition to meditating on 1 Corinthians 13, many of us memorized this chapter as well. At one of our staff meetings we even got up and recited the chapter in pairs and small groups. Here is a picture of Eddie, Roy, and Ben as they passionately recite the chapter from memory. As you can see, Roy is getting a little misty-eyed as he speaks. One question: Why is Ben shielding himself from Roy with his Bible?
